No more excuses

Well, it's been a productive day around here so far. I may all go down hill from here now that I'm on the computer. I get so easily lost in blog land and my new addiction Pinterest. I may be way behind here, but if you haven't heard of it, I'll tell you a little about it. It was confusing at first but now that I've figured it out, I love it. It's a great place to look for inspiration and ideas and make your own visual library of all those ideas. Basically, you see something you like (maybe something you would normally add to your bookmarks) and then you "repin" it to your "boards". I've seen so many things I want to make or sew, home decorating ideas that I love, photography tips and ideas, etc. By using Pinterest, you have it all in one place with pictures. You can see my boards here.

Ok, see! I already got distracted! Back to the productive day...

Well it started with a run. I've been trying to run every day in hopes of shedding some pounds and being healthier. I really don't have an excuse now. One big one is that I don't have time. After a 12 hour shift of being on my feet, the last thing I wanted to do was work out or run. Now that I don't have a job, I don't have that excuse. Another excuse, which seems lame but is completely legitimate is my hair. I know, it's silly. My hair stops me from working out. Yeah, it makes me laugh too.  But it's so much work to deal with. Since my hair is so long and thick, it's no easy task to wash, dry, and straighten it. Yes, the obvious solution is to chop it off. That's exactly what I did!
I feel silly taking the solo self-portraits so this is all you get for now. :)

My entire life, I've had long hair. I had 3 feet of hair (past my waist) until college. When I turned 21, I cut off 15 inches to donate to Locks of Love and it was still to the middle of my back!  It really hasn't gotten much shorter than my shoulder blades... until now. I cut 10 inches off today to donate and now it's right above my shoulders.  I've never had it this short but it feels great. I can actually wear my hair down in this summer heat and not smother. Plus, it was for a good cause.

And now I have no good excuses for not running or working out.

From there, I went to take my "jammed" sewing machine to the shop to figure out why it wasn't working. Part of me was hoping it was broken and not fixable so that I could get a new one but that wasn't the case.  I brought it in, showed the guy the problem and he got to work. First step, take the bottom of the carry case off. Ta-da!! It works... and now I'm embarrassed.

When we moved in, I was so eager to get started sewing so I just took the top of the carry case off. I didn't feel like putting it in the sewing cabinet and all that. I didn't have the patience though I wish I did because it could have saved me a trip.

Now that it's "fixed", I threw this little set together.
Owls seem to be the "in" thing right now.  I stumbled upon some cute owl ornaments while on Pinterest and used that pattern for this set.  You can find the free pattern and ornament tutorial on Juicy Bits blog.

Well, I'm off to unpack more boxes. That's if I don't get lost blog hopping or something. :)
