A Girls Weekend in Tennessee

I am blessed to have the family God has given me. I love them and have so much pride in my heritage. One of the many strong roots in my family tree is my grandmother.  My mom and I were able to travel to Tennessee for a long weekend visit with my her. We had a girls weekend with all of my grandmothers daughters and their daughters. A party of 3 generations all weekend.
A party for sure. Here's my grandmother and her daughters.

My grandmother just finished Chemo and Radiation treatments for throat cancer. They aren't sure what caused it but they were very aggressive with treating it. Being that the radiation targeted her throat and some of her mouth, it has been very hard for her to eat, talk, drink, etc. Not to mention, this vigorous treatment makes you feel terrible and worn out.

Despite all these factors, my grandmother got up before us and went to bed after us. She cooked us amazing meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and kept up with us trotting around town.  I know it was very wearing on her but I wouldn't trade those moments for anything. The only thing I wish I could have changed was my flight schedule. I didn't get to spend enough time there!

I think about my grandmother so often now that I use her sewing machine routinely. She is an amazing seamstress and I'm sure that's where my creative genes come from. My first and only sewing machine was her first machine. My great grandfather bought it for her in 1965(ish).  I sure wish I had her closer to me. I still have so much to learn about sewing and she's got so much talent to share.

Please keep my my beautiful and strong grandmother in your prayers.

Here's a few more pictures from the weekend:
I love my baby cousin!

Since the cancer and treatment takes quite a toll on a person, Mom (that's what we call her) spends a lot of time in bed.  For valentines day we each sent her a gift for her to look at, hold, wear, etc while she's resting. We wanted to be close to her in some way.  My brother sent her the framed black and white pictures from his trip to Jackson Hole, WY and I sent her the block letter display that you might recognize from this post.

I know not everyone could say this honestly, but I wish it was like the old days where families all lived close together. I love my family and my in-laws and really cherish spending quality time with all of them. Hug your families tonight and enjoy the time you spend with them. Each breath is a blessing and a gift given by a great and merciful God.  Again, keep Mom in your prayers.
