We ran to the store just to pick up a binder but, instead of going back home, we decided to run to the fabric store just to pick up a few swatches of fabric. The idea was to get a few swatches of fabric in the wedding colors so that as she goes around planning and the wedding party buys their attire, it can all match.
A few hours later, we finally got home and started working. I'm not really sure how it happened but our ideas just kept flowing and we created these cute color inspiration cards.
Not only can she bring it around to show the style and colors for the wedding, but she can give them to her wedding party. The tag has instructions on the attire for the girls and guys in the wedding. The girls are to follow the pink/blush color pallet and the guys follow the brown with everyone wearing boots. As we were putting them together we kept saying "oh my gosh, these are so cute!!!"
Just in case any of you out there wanted to know how to make your own, I took a couple of pictures along the way. Please excuse the blurry pictures though as I couldn't bare to stop long enough to make sure every picture was a good one. Here we go.
Thank you to USPS for free cardboard! I happened to have some of the small flat rate boxes laying around and cut those up into cards measuring about 4.5" x 5.5". Save the scraps to make the tags.
We cut the linen about every 6.5 inches (width being 1/4 yard) and used Mod Podge to adhere it to the cardboard cards. Cover one side with the adhesive and place it face down onto the middle of the linen strip. Next, cover the back in adhesive and pull the edges around so that it sticks to the back. You will have excess fabric. Fold the exposed raw edge under and glue it down. See pictures below. Click to enlarge.
I did this step to each card so that each one was drying as I worked on the next. I went back to the first one (the most dry) and did the same thing to the two ends. Fold them over and adhere. You may need to trim some fabric to remove the bulk so that it sticks better.
Cut square strips of the burlap and slightly smaller ones of the accent color (pink in our case). There's no pictures for this step and no fancy way to do it.. just lay the accent color on top of the burlap and pinch the middle so it all scrunches together.
While holding the scrunched fabric, take your yarn and wrap it around the middle loosely. Hold it on the center of your card and continue to wrap the yarn around the board a few times. Tie a knot and attach the tags with a double knot. Cut yarn to desired length.

While I was working on the boards, Jamie was making the tags. She used scraps from the cardboard box and cut it into tag shapes.
Jamie chose a piece of neutral scrapbook paper and placed it face down. Cover one side of the tag with Mod Podge and place face down on the wrong side of the paper. Do this for all tags then cut them out. Repeat with the other side. Then punch a hole.
Jamie wrote their names and date on the front of the tag and used the back to describe the attire for the guys and the girls.
We made a total of 8 color inspiration boards for probably under $15. (I can't remember exactly. She has the receipt :) )
And then we got around to making that wedding binder and organizing it. She had pictures from magazines of dresses, cakes, attire, decorations and other wedding ideas that she liked. It was all divided into sections and all contracts and paperwork got divided in there too. Now everything wedding related is in one spot and easily portable.
